누가 어떤 현실을 촉발(prompting)하려 하는가?

AI 관련 뉴스를 따라가자니 너무 많은 일이 벌어지고, 그렇다고 관심을 두지 않자니 너무 많은 일이 벌어져서 이러지도 저러지도 못했던 지난 몇 달, 집단적으로 돌아버린 듯한 일련의 흐름을 복기하기 위해 가장 최근의 사건, AI 개발 중지를 촉구하는 ‘공개서한’에서 이 zine은 시작한다. ChatGPT가 상징하는 본격적인 생성 AI 상업화 시기의 도래는 그간 잘 드러나지 않던 일종의 세계관 충돌마저 전면으로 불러낸다. 인공지능 기술을 구심점으로 모인 다양한 이들은 각각 어떤 현실을 촉발(prompt)하려 하는지, 쏟아지는 미래에 관한 상상은 어떤 현재를 그려내거나 가려 버리는지에 주의를 기울인다.

Who is Prompting Which Realities?

This zine begins with the then-recent event, the ‘open letter’ calling for a pause on AI development. It is an attempt to recap the several months in which there was too much going on in AI to follow everything, but then also too much was going on not to pay attention; a time where we were on the verge of an apparent collective madness. The full-blown commercialization of generative AI, spearheaded by ChatGPT, brings to the fore a kind of conflict between worldviews that has previously been under the radar. The zine explores what realities are prompted by different groups of people around AI technology, and what kind of present reality their imagined futures are portraying, or obscuring.
